2013 BCBHA High School Championships Rules & Regulations

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

There are 16 teams with 4 teams per division.

Teams will play each team in their division once during the round robin for a total of 3 round robin games.

Top two teams from each division after round robin play will advance to the Quarter Finals. Teams will be re-seeded 1 - 8 based on round robin record with 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 matchups in Quarter Finals. Winning teams will advance to the semifinals with the highest seed playing the lowest seed and 2nd highest seed playing the 3rd highest seed. Winning teams from the semifinals will advance to the Gold Medal Championship Game.

ROSTERS:

Teams are permitted a maximum roster size 25 (22 players and 3 goalies for the event). Team Roster of players and team staff must be submitted to the BCBHA office by 4:00 pm Wednesday May 22, 2013. Fax # 604-998-1410.
 
Game rosters may not exceed 22 players, two of which must be dressed as goaltenders. If a second goalie is not dressed, an additional runner is not permitted, and the team will not receive injury time to allow another player to dress as a goalie if their only goalie is injured during the game. If two goalies are dressed, and both are injured, injury time, per the CBHA rule book shall apply. No penalty shall apply if starting lineup differs from first six players listed on game roster.

GAME RULES:

Games will be two 18 minute stop-time periods in length. There will be no overtime in round-robin play. 10 minute Sudden-death overtime shall be used in all playoff games other than finals, which shall have a maximum of 2 x 10 minute periods.  Shoot-outs shall follow overtime periods when necessary, with 5 players from each team shooting, and if still tied 1 player from each team shall shoot until tie broken.  Players shooting in first 5 may repeat in subsequent single shooter rounds a maximum of one additional time until either of the teams has exhausted its game roster, excluding goaltenders.
 
MERCY RULE

Once a seven goal differential is reached during a round-robin game and the first period has been completed in its entirety, the game will be stopped and recorded as is. If more than a seven goal differential is achieved by the completion of the first period, the score shall be recognized only as a maximum seven goal differential.

UNIFORMS:

All divisions must have matching jerseys. Jerseys must be of identical colour scheme but may or may not have identical cresting. Minimum goalie jersey requirement is a matching colour jersey. Players not complying with this rule will not be eligible to play. Players must wear either pants or shorts and can be non-matching.
 
Colour conflict games in the event of two teams having the same colour jerseys, the Home Team must change as per the CBHA rule book.
 
EQUIPMENT:

Face shields - All players must wear full facial protection regardless of age. 

 Helmets - Players must wear CSA approved helmets. Painted helmets are prohibited, as they have lost their CSA approval once painted. Goalies must wear CSA approved helmets/face masks. "Cats Eye" facial protectors are prohibited, unless they are the new CSA approved models. Chin straps must be properly secured.

Shin guards - Use of shin guards is mandatory for all youth and adult CBHA events. All shin guards, other than D-Gel, Mylec or Rovex, must be covered.

Gloves - Protective ice hockey gloves are mandatory. The use of palm less hockey gloves, broomball, or street hockey gloves are prohibited. A glove is considered palm less if any portions of the fingers are exposed. Lacrosse gloves are permitted providing the wrist protection is closed.

Alcohol is not permitted in or outside (parking lot) of the Arena(s). Any violation of this teams will be immediately suspended from the tournament.
 
All other rules will follow the official Canadian Ball Hockey Association Rulebook.
 
Please make note that abuse (both physical and/or verbal) of BCBHA game officials or executives will not be tolerated and will be dealt with harshly.
 
GENERAL:

Rule 15a shall apply – minimum starting lineup shall consist of six players.
 
Any 5 minute major penalty and player will be ejected from the game. Exception – goalies to follow CBHA rulebook
 
Game Misconduct penalties cannot be appealed.
 
4 MINUTE PENALTTY FOR STICK INFRACTIONS:

A maximum of one goal may be scored during the 4 minute stick penalty. Once a goal is scored, the power-play advantage is terminated at that point and team is permitted to put a player on the floor from the player bench, however the penalized player will remain in penalty box until entire penalty completed and after a whistle similar to a misconduct penalty. The 4 minute stick penalty is counted as one penalty in the 3-penalty game ejection rule.

All suspensions are subject to review by the BCBHA, which may deem it necessary to add further disciplinary action depending on the gravity of the offense. Any actions by players, coaches, team affiliates or followers that are detrimental to the sport will not be tolerated. Individuals found responsible will be dealt with severely by the BCBHA through suspension.
 
TIE BREAKING RULES:
 
1. Most Wins
2. Head to Head
3. +/- on Head to Head
4. Overall +/-
5. Highest Total Of Goals For Scored In Games Involving Only The Tied Teams
6. Overall Goals For
7. Least Penalty Minutes
8. If A Tie Still Exists Then The Teams Will Play A Shootout.

In the case of more than two tied teams the “head to head” above would refer to all the games involving only the tied teams.
