BC Ball Hockey is pleased to announce four BC Coaches named to Canada's National Junior Teams for the 2023 ISBHF World Junior Championships.
Men's U23 - Head Coach: Dave Weloy (BC)
From junior nationals to the world events, Dave has been apart of many great teams at these levels since 2012. This will be his fifth trip overseas with the JTC program. His success with player development and preparedness on and off the floor can be seen in the outcomes of all his world tournaments. Dave’s team moto - striving for excellence. His goal is to share memorable experiences with each teammate and their families on a quest towards winning a championship. Dave’s coaching style is to be a collaborative, decisive, fun leader with a vision of nothing less than success for his team. Away from the bench, Dave has been a technical director in his local province, as well in 2017, instructed a player development program and coaching clinic in the Falkland Islands. Dave is a passionate coach with high level technical skillsets. Dave is looking forward to heading back to the Czech Republic, as his most recent trips saw him as head coach in 2018, and assistant coach in 2019 with the U16 JTC West Program - both coming home with world gold!
Women's U21 - Chris Sirovyak - Head Coach
Chris is a disciplined, structured, collaborative, and an inspiring leader who is motivated to win gold and inspire the team to work towards the same goal. Sirovyak has played and coached ball hockey for 25 years, winning 2 bronze, 1 silver, and 1 gold medal while playing in 3 ISBHF World Championships. He knows that by creating an environment that allows each player the opportunity to grow and develop both on and off the ball hockey floor while engaging in team building and establishing a culture where each player puts the team first is a winning combination.
Men's U20 - Assistant Coach: Jagpal Sandhu (BC)
Jag is a familiar face not only on the bench, but as well on the floor. Playing ball hockey through his teens led him to a spot with the 2008 U18 JTC roster as a defenseman and brought home Canada’s first U18 gold. With many Junior Nationals under his belt as a player, his transition to coaching has brought him to Nationals for the past 12 years. His first coaching role with JTC was in 2012 and from their has led him to a total of five world championship appointed coaching positions through the programs. As an assistant coach with the U16 in 2016, he helped lead the team to a world gold. Jag is a player/coach as he continues his career in men’s ball hockey, in past years with Team India, and currently playing men’s leagues in B.C.
Men's U18 - Assistant Coach: Mark Fraser (BC)
If you are looking for experience and hard work as a player/coach, no need to look further than Mark. Mark has played the game since the 80’s with many high level players and teams in BC. His love of the sport led him to coaching, as well as player development at a provincial level. Coaching both ice and ball hockey, his technical experience of both, mesh well with what he sets out to do as a coach in ball hockey. Mark has been appointed in the past with the JTC program, but is looking forward to his first trip overseas assisting in leading the U18’s to gold.
Men's U16 West - Head Coach: Jon Silcox (BC)
Jon is an energetic and high-energy coach that expects his players to commit to a four line, 200 foot, hard working, in your face game. Jon has always been passionate about highlighting a players roll and working with them to improve that role.
Jon has coached for over 10 years in ice and ball hockey, most recently coaching U17 Pacific Coast at the junior nationals in Winnipeg. Prior to the upcoming 2023 world's, Jon had the privilege in being a part of the 2018 Canada West gold medal in Czech Republic and is looking forward to leading a new, talented, and hard working group with their quest to gold in 2023!
